"Indian" mascot from Amite High School
|
There are approximately
65
"Indian" sports team tokens used by educational institutions throughout the
State of Louisiana. These institutionalized racial icons range from the
simplistic "Indian" misnomer to the patently offensive "Redskins."
In the summer of 1999, organized efforts aimed at
addressing the use of "Indian" sports team tokens in Louisiana were begun.
These pages are designed to assist educators, parents, and concerned others who
would like to participate in this endeavor.
