Meridian Middle School Following initiates advanced in 2006 which opted to retain its "Chiefs" nickname, some changes to this school's stereotypic "Indian" sports team token have begun. Commendable as such actions are, the generic "Chief" image on the school's entry sign still remains. Such ethnic symbolism detracts from what might otherwise be a compromise use of a more global, non-ethnic specific "Chiefs" nickname. 3/27/07 |
