Quick mascot facts on the State of Oregon:

Two Oregon newspapers, the Star-Tribune and Oregonian have chosen not to print words relating to "Indian" sports team tokens.

While retaining its "Raiders" nickname, Southern Oregon University changed its "Indian chief" logos to a red-tailed hawk

In 1998, Chemeketa Community College retired its "Indian" sports team token.

Since the 1970s, twenty high schools in Oregon have changed their "Indian" related nicknames and mascots.

During 1997, Enterprise, a small town in eastern Oregon, was involved in a divisive controversy over its "Savages" nickname and cartoon "Indian" logo which ended with the name being retained and the logos changed.
